Professional Portfolio

Throughout my career the thing I have excelled at most is solving problems. Again and again throughout my lifetime of employment, I am drawn toward finding solutions and then creating systems and streamlining processes.

This coupled with my obsession with teaching and learning made Instructional Design my ideal vehicle for creative and professional expression. The variety of subject matter I have had the good fortune to work on keeps me challenged.

MICROLEARNING

Central New Mexico Community College

Associate Instructional Consultant

Problem

During transition from Blackboard to Brightspace many community college faculty were struggling to find access to help resources, and support staff were repeatedly answering the same questions.

Brightspace Tutorials

Solution

Articulate Rise was the perfect tool for me to quickly create and disseminate mini tutorials addressing a host of common issues faculty were encountering as they learned to navigate Brightspace.

Tools Used

  • Articulate Rise
  • Snagit
  • Brightspace
  • SharePoint
  • Outlook
  • Microsoft Teams
  • Word
  • OneDrive

Note: All 7 mini-tutorials in this Rise “course” were fully authored by me, but as I no longer work there, my name no longer appears as author in the live content linked, as prescribed by the Articulate Rise subscription.

INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO (for faculty)

Central New Mexico Community College

Associate Instructional Consultant

Problem

Instructors were struggling with the grade book functionality in Brightspace; it appears the same as Blackboard, but functions in a fundamentally different way that was causing a flood of errors and grief a few weeks into the first term using Brightspace.

Brightspace Gradebook

Solution

Part of the toolkit of help my department provided was this explanatory tutorial I made using a slide deck I had made for live Zoom help sessions. Faculty appreciated the video as an accessible tool to help explain how it works, and what all those settings mean.

CONCEPT PITCH

Elizabeth Starr Harden, LLC

Instructional Design Consultant

Problem

The client was having difficulty picturing what the elements we discussed and contributed to as a team could look like all together and how we would transition from one element to another.

Credit Demystified

Solution

I took the concepts discussed with the client team, known elements, the style guidelines and I pitched visuals made in Camtasia which promoted the process well beyond discussion and storyboard.

COMPLIANCE TRACKING

Knowtion Health

Problem

Legal Department was looking to find solution to track training requirements for SOC 2 compliance. Also, gradually remove HR from process, starting with annual document acknowledgement for all 700+ employees.

Using LMS to Track Legal Docs

Solution

I demonstrated the ease and accuracy of generating reports within Adobe Learning Manager that were accepted by Legal. I made simple acknowledgment forms in Captivate and created courses in ALM to support the reporting requirements.
